The Day After

For some reason, my kids were not as broken up about the Red Sox as I was. Go figure. Life goes on, apparently.

It's always fun to come home from work and see everybody in a good mood. It doesn't happen all the time--days at daycare and school are long ones for the kids, and someone is usually on the brink of a good cry--but every so often they hold it together for an entire night. Tonight was one of those nights.

Andres has discovered Sesame Street. More accurately, actually, he has discovered a treasure trove of Sesame clips and skits on YouTube (which he can navigate surprisingly well on either the iPod Touch or the web), and he thinks they are hysterical. Grover seems to be his current favorite, with Cookie Monster a close second.

The video below shows him cracking up as he watches Cookie Monster exasperate a well-meaning librarian. It was good post-dinner entertainment; I remember watching this same clip 30 years ago.

He watched it about 4 times before tiring, then he switched over to one of Grover's classic roles as a waiter. Then it was back to Cookie Monster for a bit.

We had a few minutes before bathtime so I set up a light and we took a few pictures downstairs.

Classic.

Also classic.
Bathtime featured a lot of suds and splashing. They were being good natured about it--and actually playing well together--so I didn't mind that the floor was getting wet. It is a rare occurrence that they can be in the tub together for an extended period of time without one claiming that some sort of injustice has been done to them.

Goggles optional.

Fun with plastic.
Everybody out and still no tears--an unprecedented spate of good behavior! I could get used to this. Pajamas on, then time for Celia to go to bed, though not before her brother reads to her.

Good Dog Carl is one of the classics. No words, so Andres can tell the story as he goes along...and we've read it so many times that he has the events memorized by this point. My favorite part of this video is at the end:

A: Do you want to go to bed now?
C: No.

We eventually convinced her that bed wasn't a bad place to be, and after a couple songs she went into her crib. Though it is also worth noting that when Andres headed in 30 minutes later she was still wide awake...I'm kind of afraid to peek in there now and see whether they are both asleep. It is quiet, though, so I'll assume the best of them--it's been that kind of a night! For once, anyway.
