The Eyes Have It

I bought a new camera a couple weeks ago--the Canon 7D. I need a second camera body to help me work the sidelines now that ultimate season is ramping up again, and this model seemed like the perfect solution...fast, good sensor, great reviews, etc. Only problem is that the focus has not been great so far. So today, a Monday where Lucia and I could have taken a fun trip to a museum, or park, or taken a long walk, I was stuck inside testing and tinkering with my new non-inexpensive piece of machinery, trying to make it work the way it is supposed to work. Ugh.

Naturally, I used her as a subject for some of the shots. I'll share a couple that look ok.

What a cutie.
I'm seeing this smile a lot nowadays. Lucia seems pretty social, like her sister...so that means double trouble ahead for me. And it also means that while she's often content to hang out on her playmat (shown in vibrant color here) and play with a few toys, what she really prefers is companionship--either a parent to play peek-a-boo with or, even better, her two siblings.

Hopefully genetics can explain these eyes. Because we can't.
When we do go out for walks or errands, people always comment on how fair her skin is and how blue her eyes are. The skin is likely owed to me. The eyes? Who knows. That one is a big mystery to both Natalia and me, especially since Celia and Andres have such brown eyes.

He's decided that he likes the camera again.
Hopefully I will have done enough work to fix these camera problems for good by Tuesday or Wednesday. And if not? Back to the store, and time to look for something else. I can't have my camera being the only thing that doesn't focus on my daughter's eyes!
