Hair!

Celia's long hair is no more. Those long locks that took her months and months and months to grow are now in the mail, soon to be made into a wig for some child who is much less fortunate than the sweet girl who donated them. I'm so proud of her.

Out with the old...

...in with the new!

How different she looks! Her long ponytail has been replaced by a neat bob. The new style frames her round cheeks perfectly, and I haven't yet decided whether it makes her look older or younger than before. It's odd to see her hair bouncing up and down rather than swinging side to side.

What a difference this will make at bathtime. And how much less hair she has for Lucia to pull, too.

Today was the preschool debut of her new look. On the drive to school, I joked that some of her friends wouldn't recognize her--they might mistake her for a new student! She picked up on the joke and, upon arriving, asked some of her fellow preschoolers if they knew who she was. They seemed confused. So she said, "It's me, Celia! Did you think I was a new student because my hair is so short now?!" They still seemed confused.

Playing Legos, and flashing me a smile that looks exactly like her brother's.

The reviews have all been positive. Her teachers love the look; one even teared up a bit because she thought what Celia was doing was so generous. It is. Growing and donating hair could become a nice mother-daughter tradition...and should Lucia ever be able to grow hers past her ears, maybe she could join in too.
