Over dinner tonight, we played a fun game of "would you rather." Celia started it with this question:
"Would you rather eat a bowl of rice or a bowl of spiders?"
So...that was an easy one to answer. But once we explained that the fun of the game was asking people to choose between two unpleasant choices, the questions actually got more interesting.
Natalia amended the first question to, "Would you rather eat a bowl of rice with a spider or three pieces of broccoli?"
Andres thought about it, and ended up choosing the rice and spider dish. Apparently the thought of eating broccoli was a bridge too far. I worry about him.
Lucia followed up on the theme. She asked: "Would you rather eat a spider or a spider web?"
I thought this was a good question. I think we decided that the spider web would be the easier meal to swallow, although Lucia did raise the good point that the web would have flies and bugs in it. Like I said, a good question.
Some questions focused on matters of relative annoyance. Andres asked: "Would you rather listen to Celia's fake laugh for a week or listen to her sing the Nifty Fifty United States a million times?" There was no good answer to this one.
Then we turned to matters of personal grooming. Andres asked me: "Would you rather shave your head or your whole beard?"
This was a tough question. I do like having a beard, and I'm afraid that if I were to shave my head, it would never grow back in properly. But I answered that I would rather shave my beard--and risk looking like a 14-year old--because having a good head of hair was simply too important.
Then Celia asked one of the easiest questions all night: "Would you rather shave all your hair and beard or say 'yes' to your kids for three weeks?"
In this game of hypotheticals, some questions have a right answer. I sighed and said, "I'd rather say yes to all of you for three weeks." Cheers and applause erupted! Now I'm worried that I'll wake up one night and see the three of them standing above me, armed with clippers, ready to offer me the same ultimatum.
