Sledding

The snow fell in great quantities on Wednesday. It's been clear the past few days, so most things are shoveled out (and by "most things" I do not mean sidewalks in the village of Nonantum) although most secondary roads are sitting underneath a thin layer of packed snow and ice.

It has also been cold here so not much has melted. On street after street, house after house is hidden behind a giant bunker of snow, some up to 4 feet tall. Similar bunkers seem to exist at every possible intersection; this is making driving a bit more treacherous than it needs to be.

Despite the cold it has been sunny, and today was a good day to get outside and run/slide around a bit. So we bundled everyone up and headed into Medford for lunch/playtime with Tai and his family.

The boys entertained themselves inside for a while. After an initial period of standoffishness--"I'll play here with this truck, and I'll slyly observe you as you play with another truck somewhere else"--they eventually came together and did what little boys do--they made a lot of noise crashing things, laughing all the while. They have a really cute relationship and have always seemed to get along well.

Celia tried to keep up with them but often found herself dodging flying trucks. Before long she toddled over to the living room and played quietly with some toys, evidently feeling like she might as well leave the boys alone before anyone got in trouble.

Lunch was a feast of soup and grilled cheese sandwiches (it was truly a feast--there were about 8 beautifully-made sandwiches stacked high on a plate). Andres was exhausted enough from playing that he actually ate a whole sandwich, something that we had heard was possible, but had not seen with our own eyes in a long time.

Powered by good food, we donned jackets, snowpants, boots, hats and gloves and ventured outside. The street was perfect for sledding and sliding, as it was a sheer straightaway of ice and snow, packed down by the occasional car. Andres had a fun time pulling Tai (and, later, his little sister) up and down the street without any major spillouts. I tried to get some good shots of the action without being run over...which quickly became a game to my toddler, who delighted in rushing towards me and making me roll over to avoid being hit!

Bundled up, with sleds.

Living the good life.
