The War On Drugs (Band)

Facebook and Twitter (@bgranofsky, in case you are interested) friends will know that my brother's band, The War On Drugs, made its television debut last week, playing Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Here's a link to the clip (I would embed it here, but the video size is too big for my blog format).

It was a pretty big deal; certainly big enough for my dad and sister Sarah to make the trip to NYC for the taping. While I would have liked to have gone, the prospect of travel/expense/making up work/possibility of last-minute cancellations due to child illness/etc was a bit too daunting for a show that I could watch (albeit a few hours after it was taped) from the luxury of my couch, kids asleep 30 feet away. So that's what I did.

It's weird seeing a sibling on a real TV show. Jimmy actually said his name, and The Roots' Questlove sat in on drums for the performance. Adam seemed pretty understated the whole time, even once the song was over and the band members were all congratulating each other...I couldn't tell if he was just soaking it all in, or if he was pumped but didn't want to seem pumped, or if this was just another performance in a long series of shows. Sometimes I also forget that Adam is almost 33 and that this is his chosen profession--so while I would be a bubbling mess if I were ever on a late night TV show (order of preference: Letterman, Ferguson, Fallon, Conan, Anyone But Leno), this is actually work for him. Probably more fun than a regular day at the office, though.
