The Astronomer

Time, time, time. 24 hours is not enough time in a day; there's always 25 hours worth of things to do, dishes to clean, emails to send, and kids to parent. Despite my best of intentions it's been a couple of weeks since I've posted anything, though that should not be interpreted as a dearth of stories around here. There are many, in fact, and I have about 5 posts worth of stories that will probably never be written because of the sad fact that the day is just not long enough.

I found the video camera again, and that has proven to be a fabulous co-author. So I will lean on it heavily here, and perhaps for the foreseeable future while I try to juggle everything (job, kids, another job, still another job, selling a house, finding a new home) and still find time to sleep.

In truth, this has been a great stretch. One post that I haven't written (and hope to, but probably won't) is how much of a changed child Andres is from last fall. It's night and day; he seems happier, he sleeps better, he's kinder, he's more even tempered. School has been great for him (another sometime post) and it's wonderful to see him growing comfortably into his own skin.

A few weeks ago I wrote about how he was starting to ask big questions. Well, he's taken a real liking to astronomy and space, and that has been the obsession for about 2 months. I've been talking to him a lot about the planets, and finally decided to get some of it on tape for posterity (or until YouTube shuts down). Here you go; enjoy. My son in full form.

  1. Wow! I love the way he mentions Pluto's possible exclusion!!

  2. I'm glad I got it on tape. I know in a few months he will have moved onto something else, but the wealth of knowledge now is pretty amazing...including the whole Pluto thing! My favorite part is his take on black holes, though: very bumpy.

  3. Bumpy AND bouncy, please.

My obsession was dinosaurs. My cousin had a bizarre, extended obsession with kitchen appliances (blenders, etc.).
