Solid food

Celia turns 6 months old tomorrow. I'm not sure where the time has gone.

I remember the first 6 months of Andres' life felt like 2 whole years. I'm not joking--it was such a huge transition from the time he was a wrinkly, needy, crying baby to a not-so-wrinkly (and heavy), still needy, but crying and smiling baby that I could not believe only 6 months had passed; the rate at which they grow and learn and develop is mind-blowing.

Celia has had the fortune/misfortune (arguments can be made for either) of being the second child, so she has had to deal with attention divided between herself and her crazy brother since the day she was born. And in contrast to the first 6 months of her brother's life, time feels like it has flown between her birthday and now (for me, anyway; Natalia may feel differently). All of which brings us to the fact that, somehow, my baby girl is now ready for solid food.

I'll editorialize for a moment here and say that this is a really interesting time for me because of my newly-found interest in what, how, and why we eat. This is where it all starts: moving from milk to solid foods. I see what Andres likes to eat on a daily basis (spin the wheel: PB&J, grilled cheese, pizza, chicken nuggets) and am reminded that he was in Celia's spot only 2 short years ago...somehow, in that short time, he has forgotten that he ever liked vegetables (he did!) and has developed an infatuation with juice (he has!).

Anyway, enough about me...here are the clips you want to see:

And here big brother Andres reconnects with baby cereal:

Overall she seemed to like it; she didn't spit put the cereal so much as she just didn't know what to do with it. Cereal efforts the past couple days have been pretty successful too...tomorrow we may even try to move on from rice to oatmeal. Getting old indeed.
