Andres has always (ha! "always..." he's only 2.5 years old) loved animals, whether playing with the various dogs at ultimate, chasing squirrels, or trying to pet cats (whether they want him to or not). Recently he has become very fond of birds. We have a bird feeder on our front porch and we've already filled it up a couple times this spring...we then sit in the living room and watch as hordes of birds descend on the feeder and drop both shells and droppings onto our porch. Yay.
We filled up the bird feeder last Wednesday, but Andres was concerned that the birds would not know that the food was there. He wanted to go on a walk and announce the arrival of the food to all birds within earshot...I convinced him that making a little sign would be a better way to go. So we sat inside for a bit, designed a sign to tell the birds about the wonderful bounty awaiting them, and then adorned it with a few choice stickers (yes, Big Bird among them) and slogans ("Eat birds!"). Then we put it on our porch and waited.
A closeup of the sign.
A very literate bird.
