A Scorcher!

Today was a doozy. 80+ degree heat, two kids, errands to do and a grandfather to see.

The highlight of the day was a trip to Caryl Park in Dover. There is a very large play structure there, and Andres had a great time jumping, climbing, crawling the wrong way up slides, and driving a school bus. He even shared pretty well with the other kids there--he had his eyes set on a very big and very blue set of big wheels, and didn't totally melt down when a younger boy used it for a while.

Grandpa watched Andres for a little while and then hung out with Celia in the shade. She smiled a lot and seemed to enjoy watching all the big kids run and crawl around the place!

Once again, I was surrounded by a lot of mothers and very few fathers (I think I counted one guy who looked like he was with his kid--there were a few grandfathers there however). I've begun noticing this more and more recently...and I'm not sure if I like it or not. More on that, maybe, in a future post.

Eventually we all got tired out from the heat, piled back in the car, and headed to grandpa's for lunch. Then back home for naps.

A quick, fairly-accurate recap of our day is here, courtesy of my very-well-coordinated son:

There really never is a dull moment around here.

  1. I think you'll be surrounded by mothers as long as most places don't have parental leave policies, especially since "the norm" is still for mothers rather than fathers to take unpaid time/quit jobs following maternity leaves. My work is considering a non-gender-specific parental leave policy, separate from maternity leave - for faculty only. Lovely.
